Refried Paper Override: How to Display a Userpic

Many LiveJournal users using the system 'Refried Paper' template wish to put the his/her userpics in the menu sidebar on the right of the recent entries ('lastn') view. A direct solution is only available to LiveJournal paid members: modification of those links under the LASTN_PAGE segment of a personal style template created based on the Refried Paper style; or override of LASTN_PAGE, which remains permissible for LiveJournal paid members.

However, customization of putting a userpic in the Refried Paper can be accomplished by all LiveJournal users, even free account holders. The override code for doing so starts with putting the below override code in the 'Style Override' box located at the bottom of 'Modify Journal' (

<tr><td bgcolor="#000000"><img src="" width="1" height="1"></td></tr>

<tr><td bgcolor="#CCCCCC"><font class="subhead">my picture</font></td></tr>

<tr><td bgcolor="#000000"><img src="" width="1" height="1"></td></tr>

<tr><td align=center class="links"><div align=center><img src="" height="100" width="100"></div>

Because the override is not using the system variable %%userpic%%, whenever the LiveJournal user wants to change the default userpic, the override will need to be updated to reference the new userpic being used. This is denoted above in red. The user will be available to use his/her own wordings to the title bar that will appear above the image, denoted in yellow.

This override will be operational only if the livejournalist actually specifies a personal website under the profile settings. In the sample code given above, the website link is not actually carried through, since all links are being erased here anyway.

Variable Reference: LASTN_WEBSITE

Only one override is permitted for each specific override block.
If you are currently using a LASTN_WEBSITE override to accomplish other customizations,
this would need to be combined with that existing override.
